It's been two weeks since I've looked at or managed this site and I am THRILLED to see that so many people have visited different areas of my website. That is so awesome!! While you are here checking things out, watching videos, and playing games in Links for Learning, why don't you place a comment here????Tell me what you've been up to so far on this vacation? what are you doing? where have you been? what are you reading? (you should never stop reading--even on vacation you should read something).Post your comments now!! ;-)

I know I'm crazy to work on the first day of spring break, but it's cloudy and rainy and I might as well get it done so that I can enjoy the sunny days ahead. Working on the website is more fun than work, anyway.
As you can see, I've added several things to our website. A page for our Acrostic Summaries where I tested out posting our glogster pages, and it works! I can't wait to see the summaries when they are done. Look for them soon. I also added a page for Joey Pigza work samples, and Poetry Share Day. We have many fun things to look forward to, but for now, I'm going to get off this computer and start baking food for Easter; quiche, strawberry cake, and rolls. Have a Happy Easter and a terrific Spring Break!! Submit your essays in this space please.

I was sick on Wednesday and now we are playing catch up in preparation for Catholic Schools Week. We have songs to learn, cheers to write, doors to decorate, and a presentation to plan and practice.
I'm so proud that the class was well behaved while I was sick, that, in itself makes me feel better! More bonus buck this week! Class store coming soon! And 2 days off of school Tues and Wed Jan. 12-13th! Don't forget! I've updated my Shelfari bookshelf. One of these days, I would love to set one up for each child, BUT students have to keep reading in order to have books to add to their shelves. Maybe in March we can do this. Continue keeping track of books you've read. That's all for now! Go Packers! I want to wish my class and their families a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!! Have a blessed break! See you next year!! ;-)
Teachers have to go back to school for an inservice on Monday 12/20 and then we can start our break. ;-( I've added some things to think about in the upcoming weeks, as always, there is SO MUCH going on in our school and classroom! Check out the Class News page for details on the Pep Rally Cheer we need to write and the song we need to learn to sing with grades 1-4 at the Pep Rally.
Next up, we will discuss our presentation for the VIP (formerly Grandfriend's Day celebrations) on Wed Feb 2 and the writing we need for the all school display titled "Let Freedom Ring." Spelling Bee contestants are working hard to master more words to compete against middle school. I think they can do it! We have some great spellers in Rm. 209! One more week of practice, then the BIG TEST to select the best spellers to represent our class in the Spelling Bee on Feb 2nd. Parents you are welcome to attend. The month of December was just crazy busy! In reading we learned about visualizing what we read, which is like having little movies in our minds to help us remember what we read. We finished the book, Because of Winn Dixieand watched the movie. I was surprised that some students thought the book was going to be boring. Boring!?!?!?! Now why would i pick a boring book, when there are so many good ones to read? Ah, my students have little faith in Ms. Knight. I am glad the students enjoyed it, I did too! When we get back we will finish listening to How to Eat Fried Worms, do some more comprehension and CAFE strategies with that story and then watch the movie to compare the book to the movie. I think the books are always better, but we can take a vote. We will be starting a unit/project on the Underground Railroad in Wisconsin. There are some fascinating stories from our past to share and prepare quilt codes to display during the Parents, Pizza and Projects Family Night in February. Check back for more info on that!! It was the last night of sessions, at a social event, and THERE they were, finally! Mickey and Minny! So I had to take a picture with them. They never spoke but they were very kind to us.
And now I'm home enjoying our break. It's nice to be home, but leaving Florida with 78 degree temperatures and returning to 36 degrees, makes me want to go back to FL. Today (Monday), I am unpacking my suitcase and going through a ton of emails I missed while I was gone. Then I'm working on some lesson planning. I need to go into school to print some worksheets, but I'm scared our room is going to be a mess. I hope not. Then I want to put up the Christmas tree this week too, and go to my Dad's for Thanksgiving dinner. I brought back a couple things for our class. Some authors in the exhibit hall were giving away free books, so I snatched as many that would fit in my suitcase. ;-) Enjoy time with your families! See you soon---next Monday Nov. 29th. All this time in Disneyworld, I have not seen Mickey . .or Minney or Donald Duck or ANY of the characters!! Just teachers. Lots and lots of teachers.
Last night we went to Downtown Disney to eat dinner and shop. I bought a little present for our class at the largest Disney store in the world. I have a technology meeting this morning that I need to get to QUICK!! Thanks for all the messages. I'm really glad you are behaving and I'm REALLY happy that you are looking forward to more teamwork on Monday! That's great! I know if we set our minds to it, we can achieve those Golden Awards, I just know it!!!! Hi Class!
I'm learning lots of stuff! First I learned about ethics of writing online then I had a session on kids creating video games, which was really cool, but geared more towards middle school and high school. They talked about the good things you can learn from playing certain video games. It makes me want to bring my wii to school so we can play Rockband and Dance Dance Revolution. The last session was about planning inservices for teachers. Now I'm waiting for another session to start about Youth Voices in Writing---should be a good one! I hope you're being kind and respectful students with Ms. B. thanks for the messages. I don't know what I could possible bring back for you, everything is SO expensive. I'll go broke buying trinkets for each of you and then I might have to stay here. ha ah ha I will be flying home on Sat. See you Monday November 29th! Read read read! Have a Happy Thanksgiving! |
