Almost ready to start a break . . .

Teachers have to go back to school for an inservice on Monday 12/20 and then we can start our break.  ;-(  I've added some things to think about in the upcoming weeks, as always, there is SO MUCH going on in our school and classroom!  Check out the Class News page for details on the Pep Rally Cheer we need to write and the song we need to learn to sing with grades 1-4 at the Pep Rally.

Next up, we will discuss our presentation for the VIP (formerly Grandfriend's Day celebrations) on Wed Feb 2 and the writing we need for the all school display titled "Let Freedom Ring."

Spelling Bee contestants are working hard to master more words to compete against middle school. I think they can do it! We have some great spellers in Rm. 209! One more week of practice, then the BIG TEST to select the best spellers to represent our class in the Spelling Bee on Feb 2nd. Parents you are welcome to attend.

The month of December was just crazy busy! In reading we learned about visualizing what we read, which is like having little movies in our minds to help us remember what we read. We finished the book, Because of Winn Dixieand watched the movie. I was surprised that some students thought the book was going to be boring. Boring!?!?!?! Now why would i pick a boring book, when there are so many good ones to read? Ah, my students have little faith in Ms. Knight. I am glad the students enjoyed it, I did too!

When we get back we will finish listening to How to Eat Fried Worms, do some more comprehension and CAFE strategies with that story and then watch the movie to compare the book to the movie. I think the books are always better, but we can take a vote.

We will be starting a unit/project on the Underground Railroad in Wisconsin. There are some fascinating stories from our past to share and prepare quilt codes to display during the Parents, Pizza and Projects Family Night in February. Check back for more info on that!!
